  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

I think what seems the best to me is enforcing taxes on the super big companies.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/28/2021 9:02 AM
My vision of a sustainable community to be is for us to be getting all of the recourse and things we need without hurting our planet or depriving it of all of its recourse. Some things that would have to change would be people's lifestyle and also people not being as greedy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Suwannee Skinner 4/27/2021 8:58 AM
I did know about biomass before but not much about it one thing that really surprised me is how long biomass has been around. One thing that surprised me is that biomass is a ¨bridge¨ solution to renewable energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/26/2021 9:08 AM
I can eat less palm oil and reduce my paper consumption. I also can educate other people on how to protect peatlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/22/2021 8:40 AM
I am most concerned about the animals and forests
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/20/2021 8:59 AM
The effect this has on my thinking and actions is that it makes me think more about them and make my advice more about the destruction of the forests. What makes me overwhelmed is how much destruction we have done to our forests. What makes me feel hopeful is that the forests can grow back.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/19/2021 9:17 AM
My diet is affecting deforestation by eating meat and palm oil. I could decrease my negative effect by eating less meat and less palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/16/2021 12:00 PM
I had never heard of this before but I think the biggest advantage of it is how it can counteract the methane that comes from the cows
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/15/2021 9:12 AM
I will view them a lot differently I used to mostly just throw it away if it was past the use by date.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Suwannee Skinner's avatar
    Suwannee Skinner 4/12/2021 9:19 AM
I learned that family planning is very important for climate change and women’s equality. I think that people need different depending on where you live and your wealth.
