  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/30/2021 7:11 AM
We can make our city greener equitably by consulting with minorities and the poorer population when thinking about what the next step would be.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/29/2021 9:18 AM
I can donate money to geothermal causes, and spread the word about it to others.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/28/2021 9:18 AM
My vision of a sustainable community would look like a community relying only on reusable/renewable energy sources. A lot of modern day companies and providers would have to change their way of doing things, and pretty much everyone on the planet would have to chip in  in their own way.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/27/2021 9:02 AM
I had heard briefly of it before, but now I’ve learned that we could transition to 100% renewable clean energy if we switched to biofuels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/26/2021 9:15 AM
I could donate to peatland conserving and protecting causes, and spread information about them to others and encourage them to donate as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/19/2021 9:18 AM
I can be more conscious about the foods that I eat and try to pick food choices that lessen my impact
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/12/2021 9:31 AM
The deeply ingrained sexism and barriers built by men into the system that make it require far more work and effort to make money and be successful if one is afab. Some of these are the way that promotions are given to men far more than they are to women, since men are three times more likely to receive a promotion. And overall, women are overall paid 17.7% less than men.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/01/2021 9:27 AM
I learned that a lot of women in developing countries don't have the access to education that they need, which leads to unwanted pregnancy. In some places people have access to birth control and information about fertility and pregnancy, while in some places people don't have access, which means that people who do have that information need to help spread and share it to developing countries where some people may need it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

    Kai Seastrom's avatar
    Kai Seastrom 4/01/2021 9:06 AM
I threw out a mango pit earlier which had some fruit still on it, but other than that I haven't thrown anything else out today.
