  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

Including everyone in goals, and all planning, not making it just about one race.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/29/2021 11:55 PM
A healthy environment,  waste reduction, energy conservation, pollution control, Energy-Efficient Building, and support for local businesses.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/29/2021 7:35 AM
    Through time and advocacy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Kyleah Searles 4/27/2021 7:06 PM
Yes, what surprised me is that Carbon-rich biomass can be harvested to produce heat, create steam for electricity production, or be processed into oil or gas. Doing so trades in carbon that is already in circulation, cycling from atmosphere to plants and back again.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/26/2021 7:26 AM
You can support organizations that are trying to save peatlands, in any way that you can. Also raising awareness.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/23/2021 11:37 PM
You always have to look at the dates and know what they mean. Our atmosphere takes play and also some molecules.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Bioplastics
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/22/2021 6:58 AM
Little things like littering have such a huge impact. Humans do that and way worse things, knowing that it affects the world. I think it will take a lot of work but something has to get done before it starts getting more and more out of control.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/20/2021 7:21 AM
As we learn about this topic more it makes me want to get out and do some life changing things that can help the environment. It also makes me want to stop using so many trees and get others to realize how important they are.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/19/2021 7:35 AM
Most of our foods need tons of trees to be made. I can decrease the amounts of foods that I eat that use lots of trees and cause deforestation. Instead I can substitute them for other foods.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Kyleah Searles's avatar
    Kyleah Searles 4/16/2021 4:59 PM
No. But I think one of the biggest advantages would be giving shelter for animals.
