  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Henry Schuelke 5/03/2021 6:08 PM
My city can pretty easily switch over to green energy and make green energy very affordable and generate good, well paying jobs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/29/2021 7:55 AM
I think that most people will agree that the most financially sound way to invest in geothermal energy is in a way that will save money in the long run such as small geothermal stations that can power a home or a street.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/29/2021 7:03 AM
I think that a sustainable community would have the means to be self-sufficient, carbon neutral, and sustainable. I think that the means of production for a lot of goods need to be changed and transportation needs to be reformed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Henry Schuelke 4/27/2021 7:20 AM
I have heard of it before, but I didn’t really know all too much about it. It surprised me that it was such a good energy source and was so effective.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/22/2021 3:07 PM
lots of refrigerants harmfully impact the ozone layer. Since supermarkets refrigerate 24/7, they use lots of refrigerants.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/20/2021 5:46 PM
I think that it definitely helps me choose better options for things. It seems like a daunting task to try to reverse, but there is a lot of good work being done.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/19/2021 3:00 PM
I probably eat an unhealthy amount of candy which impacts deforestation. I can cut out some sweets to help.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Henry Schuelke's avatar
    Henry Schuelke 4/16/2021 8:12 AM
I had never really heard of it before, and I think that it could be a great thing to reduce emissions.

One community that I am in that doesn’t have equal participation of both genders is the sporting community. Some barriers in the way of equal representation there are that there is less encouragement by parents and authority figures to get into sports and there are less options for girls in sports typically.
