REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/29/2021 9:18 AMInvesting in the form of advocating is something very feasible, and even donating to these companies. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/28/2021 6:23 PMA sustainable community to me is where waste is limited, recycling is occurring, and gardens are continuous. As a planet we would have to find and utilize more energy efficient ways. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/28/2021 11:25 AMI have heard about biomass but I never learned about it. I learned that biomass can be a solution to producing less fossil fuels and producing clean energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/26/2021 9:43 AMI can avoid the consumption of products that contain ingredients that would promote the drainage and destruction of peatlands. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry BioplasticsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/22/2021 8:39 AMIt concerns me that by burning are trash we are releasing dangerous chemicals. Locally, my concerns are more based around how people don’t believe in climate change and waste, and aren’t willing to change their actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/20/2021 9:04 AMIt makes me feel more aware and want to be more cautious about what I support and give money to. Particularly, climate change feels overwhelming because it affects our forests and many other factors, which also directly correlates with us. Hearing that there are solutions that have been identified makes me hopeful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/19/2021 9:17 AMMy diet is harmfully affecting rainforests because I consume many palm oil products, coffee multiple times a day, along with frequent chocolate consumption. I can reduce this by cutting back on the amount of these things I consume, and making sure my coffee and chocolate is Shade Grown, and supports the Rainforest Alliance. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/16/2021 1:31 PMNo, I had never heard of the term “silvopasture” before, but I had heard of the integrating of nature and grazing before. I think the sequestering of carbon is the biggest advantage because it reduces greenhouse gases. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/15/2021 9:10 AMIt makes me want to be more cautious about how much food I buy depending on the dates, and the food I need. I will also judge the freshness not just by look. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Hannah Rosenfelt 4/14/2021 8:41 AMMany barriers that remain regarding women’s participation in my community is the idea that women are weaker in comparison to men. This comes into play at physical centers, where some gym classes are limited to men, or lack in women participation.
