  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Explore Other Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:42 PM
Plant-Rich diets is one of the drawdown solutions in this sector. This eco-challenge has pushed me to eat less meat and be less wasteful, and it's amazing how much healthier it is for us as will as reducing greenhouse emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:40 PM
Regenerative agriculture is profitable! "In fact, a recent study found that farms with regenerative practices were 78% more profitable than those with only conventional practices. Regenerative farmers can give up some yield if it means making more profits, which regenerative agriculture makes possible by growing higher-margin crops and reducing costly inputs." https://conservationfinancenetwork.org/2020/04/15/farmers-on-the-frontlines-of-the-regenerative-agriculture-transition
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient Management
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:39 PM
Everyone deserves a good environment. Everyone deserves a sense of community in a place that makes them feel safe, happy, and healthy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:38 PM
I think the biggest issue I can think of is waste, plastic, and contaminants. All of this trash ends up in our rivers and lakes. Using less plastic is a good place to start.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Choose Recycled Paper
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:35 PM
COVID-19 has helped me go further by choosing to not use paper at all. Virtually, I can keep most documents on my computer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:33 PM
I find it really easy to use the entire vegetable when making smoothies. It blends up so nicely, as long as it is edible, you might as well throw it in! You can also use leftovers for compost in the garden. :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:31 PM
Hopefully knowing these differences will make our household have less food waste!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:31 PM
I definitely didn't know about the many different kinds of biomass residues. I had only heard about combustion, but not Gasification, Fast pyrolysis, Carbonisation & torrefaction, and Anaerobic digestion
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:27 PM
I want to be able to live out the rest of my life, and not have the earth die in the process!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Tour a Green Roof
What did you learn on your green roof tour?

    Shea Roccaforte's avatar
    Shea Roccaforte 4/30/2021 6:26 PM
The only downside to green roofs is the cost of installation. I wonder if they have loans similar to installing solar.
