REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Mike Richmond 4/22/2021 8:35 AMI think both supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are extremely important. Having a sense of community that revolves around something that can be shared such as food, lends itself to a deep connection to community and communication. Also, local farmers are constantly being pushed out by big corporate farming, so anything we can do to support local farmers is extremely important. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Mike Richmond 4/08/2021 8:35 AMWithout a connection to nature, it is easy to lose sight of what is truly important. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
Mike Richmond 4/01/2021 6:00 PMFamily planning and women's centers are crucial for women's healthcare and also boosts quality of life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhy is it important that girls have equal access to education in order to reduce our global greenhouse gas emissions?
Mike Richmond 4/01/2021 5:58 PMI think it is important that girls and women all have equal access to educations across all facets. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Mike Richmond 4/01/2021 5:56 PMOnce out of balance, it is much harder to come back from it and we need to change people's mindset on how to view the earth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
