Transportation
Make it a Habit to Drive for better MPG
By far, the best recommendation to reduce your fuel consumption is to NOT drive your car. Opt to walk or bike when you can. When you have to drive, there are a few habits to be mindful of to reduce your fuel consumption. Avoiding bad driving habits like accelerating too quickly or late braking and using your cruise control more frequently can all improve MPG. To make things more interesting, keep track of your MPG with each tank fill-up and challenge yourself or compete with a friend to improve the results each time. Click below to LEARN more driving habits to reduce your fuel consumption.
Transportation
Improve the MPG on my existing car.
Not everyone has the pocket book to purchase a new electric, hybrid or 40+ MPG vehicle. But you can still do your part to improve your current vehicle's MPG. Regular maintenance and replacement of a few key items will go a long way toward that goal. Click the LEARN button below to explore what you can do to get the most out of your tank of gas:

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Krista Pritchett 4/29/2021 4:36 PMPlanting trees has calming properties and connects you to nature! Their growth makes the air cleaner - which also connects you to every living creature that breathes oxygen! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Switch your Search EngineWill you make this your default search engine?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Krista Pritchett 4/27/2021 6:49 AMI follow @mindful_mending on instagram - there are a MILLION ways to mend and upcycle your current clothing instead of buying more! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Advocate For Greener VehiclesHow does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?
Krista Pritchett 4/20/2021 9:58 AMI advocated for green vehicles at my company. That change would make an impact nationally (and internationally, hopefully). This change would get others involved because the employees who wouldn't normally 'go' for green vehicles, would be introduced to them in a nutural environment. Hopefully, after driving/riding in a green vehicle, it'll be easier to advocate for green choices when purchasing their own cars or family vehicles.-
Frederick S. Moses 4/20/2021 7:18 PMThis is a great idea I will bring this up with some of the folks within our organization about green vehicles

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Krista Pritchett 4/19/2021 5:44 AMI take walks in the early mornings, so I love seeing colorful birds, the flowers in bloom, spider webs with morning dew in them.
My neighborhood doesn't have a lot of traffic, so we walk in the street. It would be awesome to have sidewalks! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Krista Pritchett 4/14/2021 11:47 AMBamboo alternatives aren't readily available in my community but I purchase and bring my own from https://www.enaecogoods.com/ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Krista Pritchett 4/13/2021 9:59 AMConvenience and comfort are my top influences when choosing transportation. A train that was close to my suburb with comfy, private seats, and AC and heat controls, maybe entertainment (think Delta flight) would definitely get me on board!-
Frederick S. Moses 4/13/2021 7:17 PMLiving in Houston, AC is most important to me in the summer!

Krista Pritchett 4/12/2021 7:12 AMWhen technology provides solutions, but some are unwilling to give up convenience or tradition to support said solutions.-
Frederick S. Moses 4/12/2021 7:38 PMYou are so right on this. Most places now offer the option for e-receipt. Yet, most people still ask and/or take a hard copy receipt.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Krista Pritchett 4/09/2021 1:59 PMI had never heard of biomass technology before this challenge (that's why I chose it)! When I first started learning, I was picturing Fillmore (the 1960 VW Bus, Hippie and clean fuel aficionado from the movie Cars). And I wasn't wrong! Biochemical or thermochemical conversion processes break down biomass feedstocks into transportation fuels. In addition to those processes, combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, and anaerobic digestion can be used to produce heat and electricity!
