Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/29/2021 7:47 PM
The amount and kind of family planning is differs completely due to education level, race, and income. It is very sad that women do not have  control over their own reproductive systems. In many occasions this can perpetuate the cycle of poverty for mother and child.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Tour a Green Roof
What did you learn on your green roof tour?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/29/2021 5:51 PM
Germany is the top country  in the world in green roof technology. This form of building has been around for nearly 3000 years. As King Nebuchadnezzar II built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Sod roof houses are still in use in Scandinavian countries.

Two days left for the Ecochallenge

  • Keri Price's avatar

This month I have eaten so much tofu. I have found that if I marinade for a few hours before cooking, it tastes 100% better.

  • Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 8:22 PM
Just a few more days for the EcoChallenge. Time to scramble to make sure all of your tasks are completed by the end of the month.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 8:21 PM
As people's standard of living increases, they use more animal byproducts. The raising of livestock contributes as much greenhouse gases as all cars and trucks in the world. Eating more meat contributes to increase chance of cancer, obesity, and heart disease.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Advocate for Forest Protection
Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 8:15 PM
The choice to live in smaller homes can impact your lifestyle. Smaller homes use less resources to build and reduces the amount of utilities required.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Host a Film Screening
Thank you for raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues. What is the next step to actually address this disparity?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 8:08 PM
A huge step would be approving the Equal Right Amendment in the United States. US women do not have the same rights as men do in our country.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 8:02 PM
I am overwhelmed by the fact we are running out of time. There are island nations that will be entire populations without a homeland as the sea levels rise. I am hopeful because the younger generations are much more environmentally and socially aware than the older generations. They know they will have to fix the problem.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 4/26/2021 7:55 PM
One way to use the entire vegetable is to use it in making broth.
