Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Save Rigaud Mountain
Rigaud Mountain is an expansive natural resource that we rely upon to run many of our Outdoor Education courses, here at JAC. It is under extreme pressure from development and mismanagement, and in desperate need of protection. Facing COVID and the Climate Crisis, the need to protect our few remaining local intact forests, is more stronger than ever. We need them, for our health and wellness, and they are disappearing. If you are able, please support this important cause and take a few moments to forward this letter to others who understand its importance. The petition and funding pages are accessible through the "Learn More" button.
Industry
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion

Transportation
Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Transportation
Muscle Power on Earth Day
I will cut green house gas emissions related to my commute to John Abbott College on Earth day, April 22. I will only use muscle-powered transportation (walk, bike, skateboard) for my commute.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
David Phung 4/30/2021 9:55 AMBamboo is more and more available but not necessarily for everything yet. In many instances, metal and silicone are a good alternative to plastic, for instance, silicone bowl covers or metal straws have a much longer usable life than bamboo alternatives -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
David Phung 4/30/2021 9:53 AMRecondition. Usually with larger pieces of equipment or technological devices, once it start getting less effective, the immediate response is to buy a new one. Most of the time these things can be reconditioned once donated to the right institution or repaired to give it a few more years of life.-
Roxane Millette 4/30/2021 5:26 PMI agree. So important to look for programs that send the right devices to the right service with the right know-how. Just takes a bit of research.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
David Phung 4/26/2021 7:48 AMEqual access to healthcare and education for women is one of the best way to tackle poverty and inequality. Historically, women have been oppressed through attacks on their reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, education and inequality in access to healthcare in general. Education and healthcare gives women the tools to break barriers and change systems that were previously male dictated and controlled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
David Phung 4/26/2021 7:38 AMBecause the health system has wrongly informed them that eating meet is the only good way to gain protein. It also comes from the idea that meat the best source for muscle growth. Animals are seen as beneath humans and therefore good for consumption
