Happy Earth Day!! Lets see if we can get to #1!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/19/2021 11:18 AM
Waste is something I can think of that impacts water systems. The way we control normal waste as well as industrial waste needs to improve. Fertilizer / nitrogen mitigation needs to increase as well. Look at that potential hazard with the reservoir in FL as example of what is wrong currently
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/19/2021 11:17 AM
Sustainable water future in Colorado has a lot riding on usage rates and how we regulate use for commercial applications as Colorado is almost continuously in a drought state and our aquifers are decreasing in volume while the freshwater of the Colorado river is also being strained by use in CO as well as downstream

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:33 AM
Walking, biking definitely makes me appreciate my local community much more than when driving as I am exposed to everything my community has to offer and I see things I would normally miss. Need to do it more often
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Explore Other Transportation Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:29 AM
Interesting to learn that shipping accounts for 3% of all global emissions and that this is expected to grow quickly in the next few years
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate For Greener Vehicles
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:22 AM
Our account managers and sales support spend a lot of time on the road and using fuel-efficient vehicles could lead to a big savings in fuel / $$
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:19 AM
I had heard of biomass technology and I guess the main thing that I forget to relate to this is how big of a part wood can be in the process vs just waste biomass
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:17 AM
I can most easily support the effort to increase geothermal energy adoption by investing my advocacy and looking into the potential option for my residence
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Nick Otepka's avatar
    Nick Otepka 4/18/2021 7:15 AM
Soil structure, water retention, reducing acidity, improving porosity
