Understanding your personal needs and aesthetic can help you cut back on the amount of "fashion" you buy that doesn't really serve you or the person you want to be. Buying well-made sustainable pieces will outlast cheaper fast fashion and help the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

repurposed wood, or repurposing objects for other uses in general helps support a sustainability.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?

    Cindy Nakano's avatar
    Cindy Nakano 4/15/2021 4:50 PM
I feel very in touch with my neighborhood and the nature that surrounds it when I am able to go outside and truly listen and observe the changing seasons.  With the seasons, the tides, smells, plants, and animal behaviors change. There is more or less wind, rain, sunlight.  I look forward to spring when all the baby animals start to appear.  In observing nature, I want to protect and cherish it more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

    Cindy Nakano's avatar
    Cindy Nakano 4/15/2021 4:46 PM
We can support women-owned businesses by researching companies that we support and choosing to shop at more diverse, smaller and more local businesses who represent our interests instead of just looking at the largest big box companies.  Giving women the opportunity to earn a living can give them the economic and social freedom to improve their lives in other ways as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

I think in America we have been raised to focus too much of our protein supply on meat and should explore more alternative proteins in the mainstream.  This would improve access to food, lower pollution and slow global warming from large-scale farming.
