Transportation
Make it a Habit to Drive for better MPG
By far, the best recommendation to reduce your fuel consumption is to NOT drive your car. Opt to walk or bike when you can. When you have to drive, there are a few habits to be mindful of to reduce your fuel consumption. Avoiding bad driving habits like accelerating too quickly or late braking and using your cruise control more frequently can all improve MPG. To make things more interesting, keep track of your MPG with each tank fill-up and challenge yourself or compete with a friend to improve the results each time. Click below to LEARN more driving habits to reduce your fuel consumption.
Transportation
Improve the MPG on my existing car.
Not everyone has the pocket book to purchase a new electric, hybrid or 40+ MPG vehicle. But you can still do your part to improve your current vehicle's MPG. Regular maintenance and replacement of a few key items will go a long way toward that goal. Click the LEARN button below to explore what you can do to get the most out of your tank of gas:

Frederick S. Moses 5/01/2021 7:28 AMI want to thank my fellow WSP Team on participating in EcoChallenge. And I would like to thank Ecochallenege.org for hosting such an event! In the last 30 days, I have improved my behavior due to the challenge and definitely made me more aware of other elements that I was not aware of as it relates to he Environment. The 30 days has changed certain habits which I will be continuing as I move forward in life post the EcoChallenge. I am looking forward to continuing to communicate with the WSP Team on how we continue to make an impact! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Frederick S. Moses 4/30/2021 6:08 PMThere has always been a glass ceiling in all areas of our way of life. Main areas are management and pay. It is good that the tides are changing due too esg and other factors -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Frederick S. Moses 4/30/2021 5:42 PMDuring the day, I keep the temperature at 78 and use fans during the summer. At night, the thermostat automatically adjust to 72. saves money and helps the environment -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Frederick S. Moses 4/29/2021 6:18 PMA sustainable community looks like for me, is were everyone has access to clean energy, food, clean water and sanitation, and employment that contributes to the everyone providing for their needs and wants, and the greater good, but allows one to save to enhance quality of life.
What would need to change, is that common goals would need to unite, for a purpose and reasonable individual ideas need to be sacrificed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Frederick S. Moses 4/28/2021 4:15 PMWhat motivates me the most on changing habits is is all of the above. So many people starve daily not this year domestically but also around the world. And because we live in America we're able to get food at an economical cost including some luxury items which would be considered around the world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Fix Leaky FaucetsWhat are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?
Frederick S. Moses 4/27/2021 7:32 PMsurprisingly, the easiest one, is when brushing your teeth, in the shower, or using the dish sink, cut the water flow off when you are not using it and turn on when you are. Smart faucets make perfect sense to help reduce water. BTW, cold showers are not bad either. A Tony Robbins trick in the morning. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Frederick S. Moses 4/27/2021 7:24 PMTaking action on climate change is important to me, is because, it gives me a good feeling that I am helping others. Similar to donating to charity. Not necessary the same, but similar feelings. And, mental knowledge that I am helping the environment which benefits all. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Plan to InsulateWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Frederick S. Moses 4/27/2021 7:22 PMThe big one is lower utility bills. Particularly in the summer. Other benefits, less power usage, extended life on operating equipment such as an HVAC, etc. And replacing air filters routinely. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Frederick S. Moses 4/26/2021 7:03 PMI did hear about Biomass technology. However, I did not realize how advance it has become. Big surprise for me, is that United Airlines has signed an agreement to purchase CO2 offsets and biofuels to blend to their jet fuel in order to reach Net-zero. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Frederick S. Moses 4/26/2021 6:59 PMSilvopasture is THE natural way animals and environment are meant to be. There are a few farms mostly in Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana that practice Silvopasture. Cattle, pigs, chicken, lamb and other domesticated animals roam free around a given land, living and grassing of the land. Their CO2 production is offset by the trees and green grass, and their diet is clean, not GMO. This is pure and natural meats.
