I've spent some time this month learning about composting from my peers at work. I've been indecisive about what type of composter to purchase... I recently saw a story about a prototype countertop composter called Lomi. It's available on Indiegogo.com which is a crowdfunding site. It's kind of pricey ($379 for the moment!) and won't ship until December. It looks pretty impressive though- can turn food scraps and some plastics into compost within 24 hours!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Balance comes as a result of understanding that you are but a small piece in a much larger picture. It's not fair to all the other people, past and present, to disrespect their opportunities to experience and share in our planet.
