I had heard some about biomass technology but these specifics. I was surprised that we haven’t implemented this already because it seems like the kind of solution that can and should happen as soon as possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Joya Miracle's avatar
    Joya Miracle 4/26/2021 10:03 AM
I can make sure I don’t support palm oil, pulp, and paper plantations by not buying their products as much as possible.

    Joya Miracle 4/22/2021 8:41 AM
It just concerns me that we are using up our Earth so quickly that it feels like there isn't going to be a Earth for our children. The exponential growth of our impact on the climate is very concerning and the fact that some people are still unable to accept and solve these issues.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Joya Miracle 4/20/2021 9:01 AM
It just makes me really evaluate the things I am doing that are negatively impacting the environment and think about solutions. Honestly the numbers and statistics that have been growing so much throughout my life are very overwhelming. This Ecochallenge and documentaries like FoodInc make me feel hopeful because it is something to educate and get people's attention.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Joya Miracle's avatar
    Joya Miracle 4/19/2021 9:21 AM
I am a vegetarian and nobody in my family drinks coffee which we have done so that we are not negatively impacting the environment. I definitely need to work on lessening my consumption of palm oil because there are a lot of things I didn't even know contained palm oil.

    Joya Miracle 4/15/2021 9:12 AM
I am able to not waste as much food because I won't throw away food that is not actually rotten. I can also shop at discount grocery stores because I know that those things haven't gone bad.
