    Hi Team,

I hope that everyone who participated was able to take away a few useful strategies for lowering their personal carbon footprints. Where do we go from here? Please, share what you’ve learned with your family, friends, and coworkers; word-of-mouth is a powerful tool in combating climate change. Reaching drawdown is possible and it can be accelerated by the eco-friendly choices that we make each day. We’ve already done a lot of good this month!

    Are lucky raffle winners are:
Ben Steenblik, Jessee Altieri, Celina Torres, Marcela Cors, & Eva Hernandez!

I'll be reaching out to the winners next week to organize the delivery of your gift-packs
Also, big shoutout to @Corinne for connecting the dots during the planning stages of the challenge to make this all possible!

I’m looking forward to our next challenge and we truly appreciate all of your effort and support!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/30/2021 9:28 AM
Actively work to change policies to reduce and prevent issues like red-lining and heat islands. Incorporate diverse public opinion, biologists, foresters, climate experts, and Indigenous people into the planning process.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/30/2021 9:22 AM
I've never really related to fashion in that way, I prefer to express myself through things like music, art and cooking.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient Management
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/30/2021 9:19 AM
Living in areas of low environmental quality can effect both your physical and mental health. It can effect your sense of community by making you feel like the area has "given up" or has been neglected. Environmental quality can effect the sense of pride in your neighborhood for better or worse depending on the situation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/30/2021 9:13 AM
Writing letters/organizing signed petitions to your local legislature in support of funding geothermal energy projects.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/30/2021 9:11 AM
Time is definitely one of the main deciding factors. As EV's develop longer range batteries, more fast-charging stations are installed, and cost continues to come down through incentives & rebates I'll be making that transition in the near future.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Building With Carbon Storing Waste Products
How feasible do you think it is for society to build with agricultural waste products?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/27/2021 2:14 PM
Quite feasible! University of Melbourne has been researching how grapevine prunings can be mixed with softwood chips and resin, before being converted into particleboards. Globally, grapevine prunings represent a major source of agricultural crop waste, with an estimated 42 million tons disposed of yearly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Local Perennial Biomass
Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/27/2021 2:10 PM
Wildfires have been becoming more frequent, widespread, and destructive in recent years. Many native species are not drought tolerant and the drier/hotter seasons are definitely a topic of concern.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Chris LoConti's avatar
    Chris LoConti 4/22/2021 7:52 PM
Reducing noise pollution would be another huge benefit for animals and the environment.
