REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Connect With A NonprofitWhat are the most pressing issues for women, girls, and trans/nonbinary people in your community?
Marty Levin 4/30/2021 8:55 PMIn our community, equal pay for equal work is one of the biggest issues for women and girls. Opportunities in the STEM field are also more limited for girls and women. The FIRST Robotics program is a great way for girls to learn STEM skills. -
Marty Levin 4/30/2021 8:33 PMThis has been a lot of fun and a good learning experience, as well. Thank you to the ECO Challenge Team for creating this event and stimulating the participation of over 8,000 people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Nutrient ManagementHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Marty Levin 4/30/2021 6:08 PMSupporting local organic farmers is healthier for me, my family and the community. Sharing my knowledge with others strengthens the community, too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Marty Levin 4/30/2021 6:06 PMI have learned that as young girls become more educated, they make better choices about family planning and often choose to have smaller families. Their children often grow up healthier and have longer life expectancy, too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Marty Levin 4/30/2021 7:56 AMI recently participated in Al Gore's Climate Reality training. the Powerpoint presentation he shared with all of the natural catastrophes was somewhat overwhelming. I have been inspired by the youth who are committed to making a difference starting with Greta Thunberg and so many others, including XIye Bastida and Alexandra VillaSenor.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Marty Levin 4/29/2021 9:09 PMFor certain types f zero exhaust vehicles, there are promotions and tax savings in our area. Choosing an energy efficient vehicle would be consistent with my efforts to protect the environment. I will not buy another gas powered car. When I replace my current vehicle, it will be an EV or a hybrid. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Marty Levin 4/29/2021 9:04 PMI enjoy walking around the man made lakes in my community. Sometimes I see turtles sunbathing by the shore or swimming in the lakes. Fish often swim near the shore and ducks often swim in the lakes. The walking paths are very convenient and separate pedestrians from auto traffic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Marty Levin 4/29/2021 7:53 AMI think it starts with education of both students and parents about what each of us can do as individuals and families to develop sustainable habits: reduce use of unnecessary resources (water, electricity, oil and gas, for example). Support public buildings being powered by renewable energy. Create safe spaces for walking and biking. Encourage people to reduce their trash output and support composting instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Explore Other Electricity SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Marty Levin 4/28/2021 6:09 PMI read about a small island off the coast of Denmark that is using 100% sustainable energy. "Hermansen and his tiny island of Samsø have become recognized around the world for attaining energy independence. The island met this goal 10 years ago using a mix of wind, solar, and biomass, and now it’s working toward one of the utopian goals of environmentalists everywhere – eliminating all fossil fuels, by 2030. " Click here to see a short video and read the article: https://www.csmonitor.com/World/Europe/2017/0416/The-world-s-greenest-island?utm_source=Solutions+Story+Tracker -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Support Companies Leading in Green EnergyEvery dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. Name some companies you know that invest in green energy. How can you support them?
Marty Levin 4/28/2021 9:01 AMI was happy to learn about the companies that have taken to RE100 pledge. Over 300 RE100 companies have made a commitment to go '100% renewable'. Some of the top companies including Apple, 3M, Adobe and many others whose names will be familiar to you are on the list. Click here to see the full list: https://www.there100.org/re100-members
