Transportation
Muscle Power on Earth Day
I will cut green house gas emissions related to my commute to John Abbott College on Earth day, April 22. I will only use muscle-powered transportation (walk, bike, skateboard) for my commute.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Save Rigaud Mountain
Rigaud Mountain is an expansive natural resource that we rely upon to run many of our Outdoor Education courses, here at JAC. It is under extreme pressure from development and mismanagement, and in desperate need of protection. Facing COVID and the Climate Crisis, the need to protect our few remaining local intact forests, is more stronger than ever. We need them, for our health and wellness, and they are disappearing. If you are able, please support this important cause and take a few moments to forward this letter to others who understand its importance. The petition and funding pages are accessible through the "Learn More" button.

Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 3 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.

Calculate My Carbon Footprint
All Drawdown Solutions
I will calculate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce my negative impact on the environment.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Tend A Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating Solutions Save Rigaud MountainAfter signing a local petition, how does it make you feel?
Deidra Lauzon 4/08/2021 7:49 PMI'm thrilled that this became one of the actions for people to take!! As a resident of Rigaud mountain, I love waking up to deer on my lawn and hearing coyotes at night. I don't want that to change. It's upsetting that the town is trying to develop this area.-
Melissa Tomecz 4/09/2021 5:44 PMAgreed! These beautiful areas should not be interfered with.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or ImmigrantsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Deidra Lauzon 4/08/2021 7:30 PMIn the past I've made a conscious effort to purchase from women-owned businesses in my regular shopping. After doing more research I will try to offer more support by promoting and recommending businesses as well. By supporting these businesses it promotes gender equality and empowers women! If my daily purchases can help in anyway, it's worth putting a little more research into my shopping lists. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Deidra Lauzon 4/02/2021 2:58 PMI took the time to sit down with my family for our meals, instead of rushing up to my room to eat and watch lectures simultaneously. It was a great time to socialize with my siblings and appreciate the wonderful food my parents cooked. Overall, it felt much more rewarding! -
Deidra Lauzon 4/02/2021 2:48 PMDay 2 of the eco challenge: Started filling the pods with soil, and planting the seeds. Might not see progress for a while, but once they start sprouting it will be very exciting! Instead of using the good kitchen rags and paper towel, I repurposed my dad's old shirt to make some reusable rags for when I'm gardening. Just a small way to reduce waste : )-
Melissa Tomecz 4/02/2021 4:54 PMLove it! Good going :)
