Make it a Habit to Drive for better MPG
By far, the best recommendation to reduce your fuel consumption is to NOT drive your car. Opt to walk or bike when you can. When you have to drive, there are a few habits to be mindful of to reduce your fuel consumption. Avoiding bad driving habits like accelerating too quickly or late braking and using your cruise control more frequently can all improve MPG. To make things more interesting, keep track of your MPG with each tank fill-up and challenge yourself or compete with a friend to improve the results each time. Click below to LEARN more driving habits to reduce your fuel consumption.
Transportation
Improve the MPG on my existing car.
Not everyone has the pocket book to purchase a new electric, hybrid or 40+ MPG vehicle. But you can still do your part to improve your current vehicle's MPG. Regular maintenance and replacement of a few key items will go a long way toward that goal. Click the LEARN button below to explore what you can do to get the most out of your tank of gas:

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat do you think of this added credit?
Joseph Klemp 4/30/2021 8:38 AMI think it important to point out that the only way to improve on transportation environmentally is to do less of it. Even a switch to all electric vehicles will not decrease the amount of green house gases created as the need for electricity still requires use of fossil fuels. so called renewable resources are not renewable as dams destroy sensitive habitats and only have a few decade lifespan. Wind power takes up large spaces, kills migratory birds as well destroys additional habitats. Solar and electric vehicles require large use of rare earth elements, which by definition are rare and the mining of these resources impacts sensitive habitat areas as well (just look from space, Bingham Copper mine in Utah once was a mountain and is now a 4,000 plus deep hole in the ground). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Joseph Klemp 4/23/2021 8:52 AMMeat is a necessity for life. Eating less meat is good, but eating no meat is not healthy. Issue is we mass produce all our food products. It is better to garden and eat form your own harvest than eating from processed food sources that degrade the products with chemicals and treatments. I raise and eat my own ducks and their eggs and try to get most of my vegetables form my garden, Corporate farming has killed the nutrition in rich countries and poor. Most poor country farmers cannot make a living as they are beat out by larger country corporate farms and so called beneficial charities which give food away for free deny them the chance for a living. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Joseph Klemp 4/07/2021 8:27 AMTransportation choices are based upon need mostly. However, where appropriate I choose to avoid any mechanical transports (walking only) as that is the only way to create a climate friendly and healthy option.
