My city can make it’s climate action plan by including everyone, in every poor or unfortunate situation and work together to make the city equal all around (inferstrcuture, stores, etc).

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsCities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Lily King 4/29/2021 9:18 AM
Giving money to this solution seems to make the most sense. This seems to be an expensive investment to tap into the eath’s surface and for it to be able to supply 39 countries seems expensive. And if money isn’t the main solution, another one could be just to learn about it even more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Lily King 4/28/2021 8:35 AMMy vision of sustainable community looks like recycling everything possible in order to not waste anything, since we have so much limited supply of things on this earth. Something that would need to change is that possibly that everyone is required to have a recycling and compost bin in their house in ensure it goes to the right areas, and can be re-used. If everyone contributes the landfills and fossil fuel distribution would go down, by a lot. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Lily King 4/27/2021 7:00 AM
I had never heard of biomass technology before this. I learned that this method can replace fossil fuels for energy and electricity! This surprised me because I never thought we’d be able to find a solution to this issue, because we need so much energy. I think it’s so crazy how our electricity can be powered by manure !! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Lily King 4/21/2021 11:18 AM
My biggest concern is that one day humans will have to give up because the damage is already done and you cannot reverse the amount of CO2 in the air, or the amont of bioplastic and waste that is on our planet, it’ll be hopeless. I feel uneasy that our community will not care anymore, and that people will keep eating at the earth because it is so normalized now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Lily King 4/20/2021 9:07 AM1.
This topic has me thinking a lot about how much each dose of carbon affects our climate forests. And the hotter the climate gets, the more deforestation there is which can have many negative factors. We need to decrease the amount of carbon that goes into the atmosphere.
2.
The parts that feel overwhelming are the parts that I can't help. I can’t make factories decrease the amount of carbon that goes into the air, I can't control wildfires, and natural causes.
3.
The parts that feel hopeful is that a huge group of people are on the same page that I am, and feel motivated to make a change. It’s easy to say you can’t when it comes to big problems like this, but I’m glad that there are actions being put into place to aid this problem. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Lily King 4/19/2021 10:19 AM
My diet is impacting deforestation with my family’s consumption of meat, and coffee. We all eat meat (chicken) for almost every dinner, and I think that we could switch to plant based/ vegan alternatives instead. And as for coffee, we will drink coffee that is from the Rainforst Allience Certification. Since we all have around 6 cups of coffee combined altogether a day, it would be good to make sure it’s not bad for the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
