  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

meat is a product that is primarily driven by demand. as countries become richer and people's incomes rise above poverty level, meat becomes more affordable and accessible. higher consumption of meat is damaging to our planet because of the amount of resources needed to support large numbers of livestock, as well as the high amounts of methane released by cows. high consumption also affects others because their land is cleared for agriculture in order to meet the livestock demands of a richer country.

I think it just surprised me in general that if everyone lived the way that I do, we would require 2.7 Earths. I don't consider myself a wasteful person and I generally try to eat locally when possible, so I didn't think the number would be so high. At least now I know what I can cut back on or change in order to better help the environment.
