Go for a Daily Walk
Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 40 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org or download the app and commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.

Electric Cars, Hybrid Cars
I will spend at least 20 minutes researching and weighing my options to see if a hybrid or electric vehicle makes sense for my lifestyle.
Electricity
Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
Methane Digesters
I will watch a video about methane digesters (also commonly known as anaerobic digesters).
Industry
Go Paperless
Recycled Paper
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 3.3lbs (1.6kg) a month by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Land Sinks
Forest-Friendly Foods 2
Tropical Forest Restoration
I will replace or remove from my current diet the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Electricity
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
All Drawdown Solutions
I will calculate the greenhouse gas emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce my negative impact on the environment.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate Resilience Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Abigail Hughes 4/20/2021 10:13 AMPrior to researching silvopasture I was not aware of the term. I knew of the more traditional native forms of agriculture that were discussed but did not know of the overall concept of silvopasture. I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is that it is a more natural form of agriculture and is thus able to sustain the land better than our current industrial monoculture version of agriculture. I also think another big advantage to it is that it produces more and better quality food than our current systems of agriculture. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Abigail Hughes 4/18/2021 1:00 PMOne thing I have noticed when taking my daily walk is the minimal amount of other people out walking. Most times when I am taking a walk, I don't see many others out unless they have a dog that they need to walk for its health and well being. Most people are traveling by car. One thing I have really enjoyed is the fresh air I get and hearing the birds and other sounds of nature. Having greater access to walking trails through more natural areas rather than just a walk on the city sidewalk would make the walks more enjoyable. Having better crosswalks or pedestrian markings so that traffic is more aware and has to stop for you to cross would also make it more possible and safer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Abigail Hughes 4/18/2021 12:12 PMThe most important thing I want to prioritize in my life over material 'stuff' is time with family and friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate My Carbon FootprintWhat stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?
Abigail Hughes 4/14/2021 12:04 PMI was very surprised that it would take 7.3 earth's to support my lifestyle if everyone lived the way I did. What surprised me was the vast amount of factors that went into calculating my carbon footprint. I can take the most action through my mode of transportation as I commute a very long distance with a standard vehicle. I could also improve through limiting my packaged and meat based products in my diet and source more locally grown food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Abigail Hughes 4/14/2021 12:02 PMChanging my diet to limit the amount of foods that contribute to deforestation was not to difficult. I didn't tend to have much palm oil or coffee products in my diet to begin with, which meant I just needed to limit how much cocoa products I consumed.
