Electricity
Learn More about Biomass
Biomass Power
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of biomass.
Electricity
Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
Methane Digesters
I will watch a video about methane digesters (also commonly known as anaerobic digesters).
Industry
Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
Refrigerant Management
I will spend 20 minute(s) learning about the climate impact of refrigerants and what climate-friendly refrigerants are by using the links below.

Bioplastics
Bioplastics are a promising solution to plastic waste and climate change… but they aren’t necessarily sustainable. Find out why!
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and BIPOC-majority neighborhoods. I will avoid buying and using 3 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Owen Huff 4/30/2021 8:29 AMI had never heard of biomass technology before this. I learned that we can turn poop into energy. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Research the Climate Impact of RefrigerantsWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Owen Huff 4/22/2021 7:44 AMI learned how bad refrigerants are for the environment. Supermarkets contribute to this because of all the refrigerators they have. So if we are trying to limit refrigerants then supermarkets are a good place to start! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Owen Huff 4/21/2021 7:08 AMStraws and plastic cups are some big ones and instead, i could use paper straws and reusable cups. -
Owen Huff 4/21/2021 5:57 AMI went for a nice walk today -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Owen Huff 4/20/2021 7:55 AMI am becoming more aware of what's going on around me and seeing how my actions impact the planet. if I can change my actions maybe others will too. It feels like I don't really have a voice in what happens in the world when it comes to the environment. i feel hopeful because of all the others that want to make a difference! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Owen Huff 4/19/2021 8:59 AMMy diet is impacting deforestation because i eat a lot of meat, the meat i eat is fuel by soy based products and when farming soy the forest is destroyed. Can eat more plant based options so that way i am a more sustainable human. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Owen Huff 4/16/2021 8:59 AMI had not heard the term "silvopasture" before this. I think that's some of the advantages are that it has so many more benefits than just a regular farm or pasture. you can fertilize things and it's almost self-sustaining. for example, cows fertilize the grass the grass grows because of this and the cows have more food. or you could even plant a garden on the fertilized land., -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Owen Huff 4/16/2021 8:41 AMwell, the "best by" food dates are just recommendations that say when the manufacturer thinks the food will be "best by" and taste better and be better quality. "sell by" doesn't really apply to consumers it's just when the store owners or stockers should get it off the shelf by. you can actually get a lot more time out of a food product than what the date on it is. Just because it has a date on it doesn't mean that it's instantly bad as soon as it reaches that date -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Owen Huff 4/01/2021 9:11 AMYou can invest in geothermal energy by, buying stocks from a company that plays a leading role in the industry or you can donate to places that want to help put geothermal energy to better use
