  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 11:00 AM
We can establish norms, respect each other and the right to have the "floor."  In addition, having agendas and maintaining the times allocated for ideas/talking we can keep online meetings as a viable choice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Bioplastics
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:58 AM
Our trash issue (litter, excessive packaging, etc...) is very disconcerting and it isn't going to decrease any time soon unless we make a drastic change on an industrial level.  When our behavior impacts other species we have a serious issue to address.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Solar Water Consultation
Diversifying our energy supply and improving public health are just two benefits of renewable energy. What other motivators inspire you to consider installing a solar water heater in your home?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:52 AM
I live in a multi-unit building neighborhood and it is a difficult idea to share solar water heaters but if we could draw from the sun instead of natural gas or electricity, it would decrease our pull on our natural resources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:50 AM
It is very tough to see my students and their families working 2-3 jobs just to be able to pay rent.  When we can have honest conversations about the need for reasonable energy alternatives that support all peoples it is easy to get behind that need.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:49 AM
My vision for a sustainable community looks like one that can pull most of its resources (energy, water, food, etc...) from the local area and supports public transportation whenever possible.  While this sounds very commune-like, I do believe that this is something that we can look towards adding small scales and them ramping up as time passes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Explore Other Electricity Solutions
What is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:36 AM
Small scale solar and wind.  I know these are new but realistically if we can look at changing building practice to implement them in all new construction we could make serious changes in our pull from traditional energy sources.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:35 AM
I had and I find that our willingness to test different biomasses is awesome.  Now how can we look at using these materials on a different scale.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings Install A Toilet Tank Bank
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:35 AM
Changing building code towards low-flow on all water resources including exterior water faucets.   In addition, planting native plants which need less watering versus green grass lawns.  Or even better, looking at planting gardens over grass in all yards.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/27/2021 10:32 AM
Sustainable water future would be the ability to have a grey water system to reduce the load on potable water.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Dacia Harris's avatar
    Dacia Harris 4/20/2021 8:28 AM
Yes, I have heard of silvopasture and think that is a great way to integrate more trees back into the US agricultural lands.
