Action Track: Climate Resilience
Plant Trees
Temperate Forest Restoration
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Industry
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
Multiple Industry Solutions
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Health and Education
Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Sustainable Intensification for Smallholders
I will spend 10 minutes researching businesses owned by women, immigrants, and Black, Indigenous, and people of color that I can support when shopping.
Industry
Practice the 5 R's
Recycling
I will Practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Land Sinks
Forest-Friendly Foods 2
Tropical Forest Restoration
I will replace or remove from my current diet the palm oil, coffee, and cocoa products that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Land Sinks
Buy Bamboo
Bamboo Production
When they are available, I will purchase products made from bamboo instead of wood, plastic, or metal.
Industry
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bioplastics
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and BIPOC-majority neighborhoods. I will avoid buying and using 2 single-use plastics and instead replace them with durable options.
Transportation
Express My Support For Equitable Biking Infrastructure
Bicycle Infrastructure
I will find out who in my city makes decisions that impact bike routes and express my support for better biking infrastructure.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Reduce Animal Products
Plant-Rich Diets
I will enjoy 3 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Reduced Food Waste
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning how to differentiate between sell by, use by, and best by dates.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Farm Irrigation Efficiency
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of trees and plants in my yard.
Health and Education
Start a Social Media Campaign
Health and Education
Through social media, I will raise awareness about gender inequity in education by sharing the information found in the links below.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Nicole Hambleton 4/30/2021 2:48 PMWow! I can't believe April is over. Where did it go? I found it hard to stay on top of daily goals this year. I definitely did other eco activities that I didn't record such as picking up trash on walks. I'm also not sure if I received points for activities that "I already do" like taking a daily walk? Oh well. Beyond the accumulation of points, my heart and soul has been nourished by giving gratitude to Mother Earth daily, hugging trees, and planting in our gardens. I'm so grateful to live in such a beautiful rural area surrounded by beauty.-
Cherry Vercher 4/30/2021 5:28 PMJust click on the button that saids, you already do this and it will go towards your points but, you will have to go to the edit Actions page to ediit/confirm it. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Nicole Hambleton 4/15/2021 10:52 AMI recently found bamboo toilet paper at the local grocery store (Metro). Its called Silk 'n Soft and it is 100% bamboo! -
Nicole Hambleton 4/15/2021 10:31 AMI'm having trouble going on and documenting my actions daily! I have been doing them though. I also just consciously harvested a few wild leeks (ramps) for my lunch. Super tasty!!!-
Cherry Vercher 4/30/2021 5:37 PMRead and study the action first. And then, answer your reflection question. But,this is optional you don't have to answer it if you don't want to. Once, you do that go back and click on the button to complete. And, on your daily actions you just click on the button and type in how many mins or hours you did it. If it's required to do so, then click on the button and your done. -
Headwaters Communities In Action 4/15/2021 11:52 AMYou can definitely go back in time and check off previous days. I sometimes forget to track how much time I did on certain actions, but it's a best effort basis.
I like the challenge of getting the check mark AND the green circle for each day though. Talk about Pavlovian impulses... ;P
Thanks for trying and posting anyway! -
Climate Action in Dufferin 4/15/2021 10:43 AMMmmmm, sounds delicious Nicole!
I too forget to login at the end of the day to check off my actions sometimes! I think you can change the date on your dashboard and mark actions from days past complete.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Nicole Hambleton 4/05/2021 9:41 AMThis is really helpful. I will be less likely to worry about "food safety" and throw food out now that I understand the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Nicole Hambleton 4/05/2021 9:39 AMMeat is a white privilege food. Eating meat can clog arteries, and the ranching of meat for large fast food corporations usually involves clear cutting forests. The people that live and work in areas where meat is ranched and killed are live with the direct impacts of climate change and pollution. -
