Transportation
Improve a Bus Stop
Public Transit
I will improve a bus stop in my neighborhood by posting the stop schedule, adding seating or shelter, adding art or flowers, picking up litter, or implementing some other small improvement.
Transportation
Go by Bike
Bicycle Infrastructure
I will commute by bike 4 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Support Nutrient Management
Nutrient Management
I will research and support local farmers who have made the decision to not use synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.
Action Track: Accelerating Solutions
Save Rigaud Mountain
Rigaud Mountain is an expansive natural resource that we rely upon to run many of our Outdoor Education courses, here at JAC. It is under extreme pressure from development and mismanagement, and in desperate need of protection. Facing COVID and the Climate Crisis, the need to protect our few remaining local intact forests, is more stronger than ever. We need them, for our health and wellness, and they are disappearing. If you are able, please support this important cause and take a few moments to forward this letter to others who understand its importance. The petition and funding pages are accessible through the "Learn More" button.
Transportation
Muscle Power on Earth Day
I will cut green house gas emissions related to my commute to John Abbott College on Earth day, April 22. I will only use muscle-powered transportation (walk, bike, skateboard) for my commute.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Sydney Guilfoyle 4/14/2021 12:23 PMI think that it greatly strengthens our sense of community when we buy local and support organic farmers. They have only a certain amount of people they can reach out to, so bringing awareness to others will increase their business, profit everyone, and build a supportive community -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Sydney Guilfoyle 4/14/2021 12:19 PMI think awareness is the most important aspect of encouraging this method of transportation. Showing the facts to people and educating them is the first step into changing how we travel to places. This is why I printed a fact sheet to be posted on the local bus stop. Not only does it serve as encouragement, but inspiration as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel compared to using other methods of transportation?
Sydney Guilfoyle 4/14/2021 12:16 PMI love biking. It is such a good workout and makes me feel strong and accomplished after my daily 4-mile coffee run. I use the coffee as motivation, but truly once I get out of the house I don't want to stop biking. Biking to work at 5am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is a bit of a bummer sometimes, but it really sets the tone for the rest of my day -
Sydney Guilfoyle 4/14/2021 12:07 PMI was not aware that we needed to check in daily for the eco-challenge but I have tracked how much I've biked so far and I will continue to post to make up for the lost points! Total so far: 146.8 km!!! I get my daily coffee which puts me at 4.125 miles and then the days I work I get up to 8.375 miles a day biking to and from work+coffee run)-
Liz Zavodsky (Ecochallenge Staff) 4/14/2021 4:56 PMThat's wonderful. You can also go back 7 days and check in for days you have missed. Hope that helps. Thanks for participating! You are making a difference.
