Disappointed to learn how Chicago is repairing its lakefront, an expensive project that is not sustainable and will make erosion and other coastal effects worse: https://news.wttw.com/2021/04/23/repairs-finally-underway-stretch-south-lakefront-damaged-2020-storm
Rip rap is used up and down the North Shore's coast as well, along with armoring (jetties, seawalls) that intensify wave energy and starve areas of beach. Living shorelines and other green options are far better options.

We bought a kitchen composter and are using it to turn our food waste overnight into food for the garden the next morning. It's been great!
