REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Lisa Ehleiter 4/09/2021 11:18 PMBiochar can provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon, such as improving the productivity of farmland. The main roadblock is that these benefits aren't immediate; they could require significant investment of time and money. I think biochar will be a great tool to keep in the Drawdown toolbox. It seems like a good fit for many industries and situations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceCities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Lisa Ehleiter 4/09/2021 12:33 AMThese resources provide a lot of information on how cities can make climate action plans more equitable and socially just. I think the biggest challenge is recognizing equity as a major goal of climate action. Hopefully as a "Compassionate City." Rochester MN has a firm foundation. Too often, planning for climate change is seen as an excuse to plan for neighborhood upscaling, i.e. gentrification. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Lisa Ehleiter 4/07/2021 11:24 PMLike most of us, my diet contains more meat than necessary. This can lead to increased deforestation. I've done a good job in recent years of adjusting coffee, cocoa, and palm oil consumption and I pay attention to where my meat comes from, which I will continue. My current goal is to build habits around plant-based proteins to reduce how much meat I purchase. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Lisa Ehleiter 4/03/2021 3:41 AMMy Vision of a Sustainable Community: A sustainable community doesn't have waste. It fully employs technologies like methane digestors, recycling everything. Humans continue living their comfortable lives while also creating a sustaining environment for other species. -
