  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

This is a hard question in my opinion I think. Because it’s hard to see the light in something thats causing a lot of people to lose their homes. I think these plans have great intentions, they make our city look a lot nicer and way more fun to live in. But it comes with a cost. It’s hard to justify, but maybe the rallies and just the fact that the city is doing something about how bad our climate change has become, is enough? They’re looking for a change, and seemingly willing to make one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Sarah Dugliss 4/29/2021 12:47 PM
I mean this seems very cool, and like something I would like to have in my house but for a while my family would probably need to save some money for this. I mean I’m willing to save up some money I guess, but I don’t really know.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/28/2021 9:11 AM
I think my vision would just have to be probably having a community that a lot of people contribute in. Like just everyone generally helping everyone else out. The way for this to become a reality is simple, people just need to get started helping out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/27/2021 9:08 AM
I have heard of it, but not very much. I feel like I knew the basics but not much. It’s interesting that biomass feedstock can replace fossil fuels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/26/2021 9:06 AM
Probably pollution. Pollution is pretty much a global thing… but yeah its everywhere and its ruining a lot of our earth. And for locally maybe just dumping stuff? Like just a lot of waste in certain areas? It feels weird
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/26/2021 9:03 AM
Definitely trying to reduce my use of things that have those things in them. Not completely, but enough. You can make a difference. It doesn't really matter where you live.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/19/2021 9:20 AM
I mean I guess my diet is impacting deforestation, but I can’t really go fully vegan. I can try and eat more plant based foods but it’s just not the best option for me to switch to being a vegan fully. I’d love to help the Earth, but I think I can find other ways like making gardens and doing other things with plants that could help. I don’t really know...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/15/2021 2:26 PM
I think I have actually. I didn’t know what it really was until now though. I think the biggest advantage is probably just having a nice comfortable space for your livestock, and also being able to get money from it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/15/2021 9:54 AM
I probably won’t treat them much differently. I kinda knew all of this before but I’ll definitely make sure whats the best date to eat something.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Sarah Dugliss's avatar
    Sarah Dugliss 4/12/2021 9:15 AM
Lot’s of things. I think one thing mainly is our image and like, the way people perceive us. Since it’s only been so sexual and objectified for so long - it’s really easy to see women as just some sort of whole being that are all the same and I guess, ‘don’t care’. I think the way everyone has chosen to see women is really our biggest barrier.
