  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

To make climate action plans equitable planners need to start designing plans to help people and communities who need them most. Climate action cannot be completely geared towards the upper and middle classes without displacing those in low-income areas that need actions to be taken even more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

Personally, I can not put forth a financial investment. However, I can learn about geothermal energy and other sustainable energy sources and try to spread my knowledge and the importance of these matters.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Leah Dickinson 4/30/2021 7:10 AM
In my vision of a sustainable community, I see people of all incomes being able to use and benefit from clean energy. We will have to continue progressing quite a bit before that is possible. It will have to be made easy to access and affordable to use sustainable energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

I had not ever heard of biomass before now. I was surprised by the true impact that biomass could have on our planet, and how many ways this clean energy can be used.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

I am most concerned about the amount of carbon being produced by big corporations because it feels like it’s completely out of the public's control. I am also concerned on a more local level about the amount of unconscious consumption happening.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Leah Dickinson's avatar
    Leah Dickinson 4/20/2021 11:17 AM
To decrease my negative impact on deforestation I can become a more conscious consumer. I can choose plant-based products over meat and dairy, and be more aware of the brands I choose.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health and Education
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

Women are often talked over in communities. Their ideas never have a chance to be put to use.  It can be easy to forget when blessed with opportunities and privilege especially as a white women that women still face barriers of inequality even in my own communities.

I learned that women around the world lack access to health care and family planning. This plays into the cycle of poverty. People living in areas with less sex education and family planning access are usually those living in poverty.
