Hazel Derr 4/16/2021 10:18 AMI've found myself wanting to go on longer walks everyday as it gets nicer outside which is a factor I think a lot of people would agree with. As summer starts happening I think the amount I use my car will go down because it's pleasant to walk or bike to my destinations instead of driving there! -
Hazel Derr 4/09/2021 12:07 PMMy family and I have a takeout night every Friday night and this morning I took some time to research some restaurants near us that are owned by women, BIPOC, and immigrants. It was cool to find out that some of our favorite restaurants are actually owned by some of these groups and I found some new places I'm excited to recommend to my family to try.-
Sadie Carnes 4/09/2021 1:25 PMYes! I love it! I just did the same thing for my lunch yesterday and was also surprised to see how many restaurants that I have been wanting to try or do frequent that are women owned! WooHoo! Have a great dinner with your family tonight :)

Hazel Derr 4/07/2021 11:53 AMI actually really enjoy going on walks, they are a great way to spend time outside (especially as the weather gets nicer) and a fun way to catch up with my family or friends. Today instead of going to our normal drive through coffee place, my sister and I walked to get coffee instead. I think Portland is a pretty good walking city and there are lots of walking distance places near where I live so I'm lucky. One thing I noticed is the amount of construction we had to dodge on streets where we would usually want to walk. Portland is also a very quickly growing city so construction has become really common. Not sure if that will be good in the long run for making our neighborhood more walkable but at the moment it makes it a bit more difficult. -
Hazel Derr 4/06/2021 6:39 PMThis challenge has already been really cool! Today when ordering dinner I chose a meatless option instead of what I would normally order. I tend to not eat much meat anyways because I just don't like it very much but I normally would order certain meat when getting dinner out. Today I was happy to order something meatless for this challenge!-
Kim Smith 4/07/2021 7:05 PMI am so glad that you enjoy the challenge and think that it is "really cool"! That makes me so happy! I have been participating in different EcoChallenges for years and they have deeply affected my behaviors. The model really works.

Hazel Derr 4/05/2021 9:28 AMLast year when I was stuck at home due to quarantine I got really into sewing. I have grown up thrift shopping and avoiding fast fashion as much as possible because that's how my mom has always raised me but sewing became a really great outlet for me, while helping the environment. Every time I see something online like a dress or a shirt that in the past I would have considered buying, I instead look up a tutorial and get out my sewing machine and old reworked fabric. This is also a really great way to reuse old clothes I don't wear anymore, and turn them into something new that I will wear! I wish more people would cut down on their shopping especially from fast fashion brands because it's so wasteful and becomes such a toxic cycle.-
Sadie Carnes 4/06/2021 5:35 PMHi Hazel!
I absolutely love hearing this! I think sewing is so much fun! I have been intimidated to attempt some sewing projections because I don't know how to go about it and I am too unmotivated to look up tutorials. However, after reading your post I feel inspired to start sewing again, and pushing myself to try learning new patterns. Thank you for sharing! And good for you! :)
