  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Knowing the difference will allow me to make better decisions regarding food waste. Previously I would often throw out food that was past its date, but now knowing what each of them mean I can lessen my food waste by using them after the date in most cases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?

I find myself focusing more on the food I'm eating and being appreciative of where that food came from and the journey it took to get from harvest to table.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

I’ve seen benefits in that I’ve been able to listen to my body better. I can use these smaller portions to slow down my eating and make sure that I really want/need another portion before I eat one
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Hannah Cole's avatar
    Hannah Cole 4/19/2021 8:07 AM
The wasting of water and land motivates me most. It takes so much water and land to grow these crops in the system they’re produced in. These things are not going to be around forever if we continue to be wasteful
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

I think my diet choices definitely fall within these guidelines most of the time! I was interested to find out some of the food I should avoid, and will make sure to check back and look at this website before buying my seafood from now on!
