  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/30/2021 9:10 AM
the water in the french broad need to be cleaned, and then also people just need to be taught how to conserve water because that is a very important first step that I think gets forgotten. Technology to reduce water usage also needs to be made more accessible to all.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/30/2021 9:09 AM
Asheville can work to make climate actions equitable by not only fixing up the areas that are tourist hot spots and going to all areas of town and working to make them beautiful and safe.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/29/2021 12:02 PM
I feel that passive geothermal energy would be the most effective because it requires the least money and is the easiest for people to employ for their own homes. I could invest time to tell other people about it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/28/2021 11:27 AM
I think that this vision is really interesting. I had never heard of it before but I think it would be really effective. For it to work people would have to separate their food waste from their other forms of waste which isn't too difficult.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/27/2021 9:35 AM
I have not heard of biomass technology before. Learning about this form of energy made me wonder why it isn’t a bigger thing because it would eliminate so many issues all at once.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/26/2021 9:32 AM
You can work to reduce the amount of palm oil products that you use, you also can work to ensure that you are not wasting paper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry
What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/22/2021 8:46 AM
What concerns me the most is the focus on objects worldwide and the culture that things are “in and out” is perpetuated and causing harm to people mentally and the enviornment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/20/2021 10:20 AM
It makes me want to be more cautious of the products I use and the activities that I participate in. The fact that the Earth is being harmed so much by things that people may not even realize that they are doing. That there are programs like drawdown to help inform people of what is going on in the world, and that people are starting to put in the work to help save the planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/19/2021 9:18 AM
My diet is directly impacting deforestation in a way that I hadn’t even realized. The fact that so much deforestation occurs hourly just because of palm oil is heartbreaking. A way that I can work to help make a positive impact, even if it's small, is to eat locally sourced everything.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    stella c's avatar
    stella c 4/16/2021 1:01 PM
I had not heard of a silvopasture before today. I feel like the biggest advantage of a silvopasture is that the farmer is able to cultivate multiple crops in the same area along with being able to have animals there too.
