Make it a Habit to Drive for better MPG

By far, the best recommendation to reduce your fuel consumption is to NOT drive your car. Opt to walk or bike when you can. When you have to drive, there are a few habits to be mindful of to reduce your fuel consumption. Avoiding bad driving habits like accelerating too quickly or late braking and using your cruise control more frequently can all improve MPG. To make things more interesting, keep track of your MPG with each tank fill-up and challenge yourself or compete with a friend to improve the results each time. Click below to LEARN more driving habits to reduce your fuel consumption.

I think car dealers/mechanics should be educating the public on the things that someone can do on their own to improve the MPG of an existing car.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I agree. But also something as simple as asking for the decision maker for a companies recycling program, or who handles waste will make all the difference in the world.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?

    Jonathan Chan's avatar
    Jonathan Chan 4/15/2021 11:39 AM
People in richer countries have more access to meat than people in other places, thus they eat it more.  Eating more meat is not healthy for our bodies which is why the plant-based "meat" is becoming more and more popular.

In the following diets such as keto, low carb and body building community, eating meat is critical to reaching certain health goals.  With post blood works done, triglycerides, cholesterol, body fat, and general health are much improved. But, to maintain such as diet in todays world comes at a cost. GHG, resources and supply chain all are impacted. But access and cost play in a role to why places like the US have inexpensive meat products.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Jonathan Chan's avatar

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Jonathan Chan 4/15/2021 11:35 AM
I drive to work for convenience, takes less time, and is the only way to minimize risk of danger with the current rise in Asian hate crimes.  This comes with added costs as it is more expensive to pay for gas for the month versus buying an unlimited monthly Metro Card.

    • Frederick S. Moses's avatar
      Frederick S. Moses 4/15/2021 7:42 PM
It is really ashame to read that Asian hate crimes are happening in a large scale. I will bring this up in the next Inclusion and Diversity meeting.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Jonathan Chan's avatar
    Jonathan Chan 4/15/2021 11:31 AM
Knowing what can still be consumed after these three types of dates will lead to less food waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
