  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Paiden Castelblanco 4/29/2021 9:18 AM
I can invest in geothermal energy by literally investing in geothermal companies or, later in life, install a passive system for my home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Paiden Castelblanco's avatar
    Paiden Castelblanco 4/28/2021 9:11 AM
I imagine community gardens, generators powered by sustainable energy sources like biogas or wind turbines, and more plant and animal life. Legislation that promotes sustainable energy sources, mass-informing the world about the "behind-the-curtains" processes of the globe, and more people being willing / motivated to actively play out the solutions to climate change.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transportation Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I like exercising, especially when it's with people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Paiden Castelblanco's avatar
    Paiden Castelblanco 4/19/2021 9:29 AM
I will not view expiration dates as safety warnings, and use my sense of smell to further determine freshness if needed. I can also delay the time I open a product to see if it's really more "fresh".
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Paiden Castelblanco's avatar
    Paiden Castelblanco 4/19/2021 9:24 AM
The palm oil and animal products that I consume are some of the most impactful foods on the environment in terms of deforestation. I can opt for even more plant-based meat/dairy alternative products, be more aware of products that have palm oil in them and choose better options.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Paiden Castelblanco's avatar
    Paiden Castelblanco 4/16/2021 7:01 PM
No, I had not heard of it before, but I definitely think the biggest advantage is the stability of an ecosystem that a silvopasture creates.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Paiden Castelblanco's avatar
    Paiden Castelblanco 4/12/2021 11:31 AM
Well to start off, implicit bias preferring men over women is an issue that our policymakers and hiring companies (and more) have that make it difficult for women to obtain or even maintain jobs. Then, you have the added layer of structural discrimination which is simply the lack of acknowledgment or opportunity for women, like in some countries how women are deprived of the right to education. Overall, we are pretty globally disadvantaged.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, BIPOC, or Immigrants
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. What have you done in the past to support women-owned businesses? How can you better support communities by supporting women?

I can continue to make informed consumer decisions, and ask about business ownership at the Farmer's Market.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Paiden Castelblanco 4/01/2021 10:50 AM
I didn't realize how much the utilities in my house emitted, and how the waste my family produced contributed to a heightened carbon footprint.
