Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. How would you rather use this money?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/27/2021 11:56 AM
I'd rather use this money on home improvements.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Calculate My Carbon Footprint
What stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/27/2021 11:53 AM
How much of my footprint goes to heating my home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Building With Carbon Storing Waste Products
How feasible do you think it is for society to build with agricultural waste products?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/22/2021 1:56 PM
I think it depends on the region. How effective are these materials in areas with termites or excessive heat or excessive cold? What about termites? We'll need to see some real world, high-visibility examples of its practicality first.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/20/2021 11:44 AM
My current diet impacts deforestation as I eat meat, eggs, dairy, chocolate, many products that contain palm oil, and I drink coffee. I can decrease the negative impact by make a conscious effort to purchase products that have sustainable sourcing practices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 2
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/20/2021 11:39 AM
I didn't really change my diet so much as my product choices. Two people eat a jar of peanut butter/month in our household. I researched the sourcing  habits of our peanut butter. We typically bake vs buy cookies and such. No biggie there. I will, however, switch out my current coffee brand for one that has more sustainable sourcing practices.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/19/2021 11:06 AM
Knowing the difference between these date stamps ultimately can reduce food waste. Instead of immediately discarding food based on the date, food may be kept longer and used safely.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/19/2021 10:56 AM
It seems many of the needs related to family planning are the same or similar across the globe.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/13/2021 4:58 PM
Improperly disposing of medications and misuse of fertilizers impact the health of water systems for sure.

To help improve the health of water systems I can look for resources for proper disposal of expired medication.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

    Celeste Calhoun Johnson's avatar
Celeste Calhoun Johnson 4/13/2021 4:53 PM
Ha! I'll eat less for sure...hopefully.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
