REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationIn what other ways could you help girls overcome health barriers to being able to attend school?

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and EducationWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
Erin Burk 4/30/2021 10:53 AMFamily planning is central to civil rights and for lifting people out of poverty. When we invest in women, they in turn invest in their family and children. By providing resources for family planning, a woman is more able to provide/improve her life and the lives of the members of her family. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceCities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Erin Burk 4/30/2021 10:52 AMFor any improvements - but especially ones made for climate change - all stakeholders must be involved from beginning to end to make sure all voices are heard. Equally important is shifting the economic model of real estate and development so that projects that address climate change are economically profitable (and that project that don't address this are not). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered SinksMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Erin Burk 4/23/2021 11:14 AMI do follow the seafood guidelines - it is easy for me to follow because the grocery store I shop at posts the fish sustainability ratings on the labels at the fish counter. I could eat a more diverse range of seafood, and will try to do so moving forward to avoid overtaxing one type of fish. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Accelerating SolutionsWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Erin Burk 4/23/2021 11:12 AMTransportation choices are usually dictated by time available. This means that if a drive is longer than 6 hours we often fly (and obviously fly to travel overseas). However, I would gladly utilize high-speed rail as I enjoy using trains for transportation and think this would be a great alternative. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow close is the nearest climate-friendly supermarket to your home? How could you encourage local supermarket to reduce or phase out their use of HFC refrigerants?
Erin Burk 4/20/2021 7:14 AMAfter completing this activity, I was disappointed to find out that I do not live near a supermarket that has not phased out their use of HFC refrigerant. Since I am near a Whole Foods, and being earth/climate friendly is a core value of their brand, I was assuming this store would be on the list, and was surprised to find out that it was not. I will follow up by looking into Whole Foods and their website to see if this is in their plans for future improvements. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat stood out to you most about your carbon footprint? What surprised you or sparked curiosity? Where can you take most immediate action?
