I will enjoy 3 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Electricity
Hang Laundry Outside to Dry
I will hand one load of laundry a week outside to dry instead of using the dryer.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Colin Brammer 4/27/2021 1:53 PMI would prefer to support more geothermal energy plants in the area where I live. I would like to invest in a geothermal home system, but I do not have the space for the coils, adn the cost of installation with current trees is prohibitive. I can advocate to lawmakers for them to look into greener power options like geothermal. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseClean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?
Colin Brammer 4/26/2021 2:26 PMIt culd help native flora and fauna bounce back. It can not be such a burden on the areas where farming is occurring by keeping the soils in place and not having to use so many fertilizers. It gice the farmer, adn the lad a break. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Colin Brammer 4/26/2021 2:23 PMI feel like I am reducing my carbon footprint, helping increase the native flora by planting native trees, adn helping th esildlife by increasing habitat -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceCities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?
Colin Brammer 4/22/2021 2:07 PMMany times by trying to be 'good' regarding greening a city and focusing on limiting imacts, city planners adn official displace people from areas that they can afford. It is happening in many parts of the city I currently live in. Intentions are good, but not everyone is considered in the decision. The city needs to look for alternate ways to limit climate change but be socially conscious as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseWhat program did you choose and why?
Colin Brammer 4/22/2021 2:04 PMI participated in "Lost but not Forgotten: Preventing plant extinction events by learning from the past." It was very interesting and highlighted plant extinctions and but also encouraged conservation and people supporting Land grants and Plant preservation societies. I love exploring and it gives me encouragement to keep looking for that rare endemic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityDid you see anything in nature while you were hanging your laundry?
Colin Brammer 4/21/2021 6:28 AMAlways. We have a very active community of Blue Jays and Eastern Towhees, but there is a pair of Red Shouldered hawks that like to sit on our fence and hunt. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Colin Brammer 4/19/2021 1:56 PMI had not heard of the term, but once viewing the first documentary, it is the pre-industiral farming. Thee biggest advantage is less stressed animals, greater adn multiple crops for the farmer, and sontinued diversity in the farm area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Colin Brammer 4/18/2021 2:30 PMHuman activities include too many pesticides, fertilizers, and general yard runoff. The waste and garbage thrown out by people often winds up in lakes and the ocean. I can and do refuse to use artificail fertilizers and any kind of herbicide or insecticide. I am conscientious of how I dispose of anything and make sure it winds up in the proper place. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Colin Brammer 4/18/2021 2:25 PMMy primary motivation was to stop putting waste foods, even if just broccoli skins adn banana peels, into landfills. They are much better used to feed the worms and insects in my yard, plus I can get nice compost for the garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Colin Brammer 4/18/2021 2:21 PMI can decide not to purchase, or reduce consumption of, products that contain palm oil. I never reaized there were so many peatlands, especially in the tropics.
