REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityEvery dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. Name some companies you know that invest in green energy. How can you support them?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 11:38 AMTesla, Google, GE, SunHydrogen are some of the companies I know that invest in green energy. I can support them by investing in their products and encouraging other companies to do the same. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Climate ResilienceWhat are the multiple benefits of community gardens, including carbon sequestration? Why do these benefits matter to you?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 11:33 AMFresh produce, community engagement, and better ingredients are some of the benefits of community gardens. These benefits matter to me because knowing where your food comes from helps you make better decisions on your diet. Another reason they are important to me is because they create a sense of community among the members of the garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 11:27 AMI incorporate the other R's by refusing to buy more clothes than I need. Another way I try to incorporate the other R's is by reusing handsoap dispensers by buying refill. Implementing these R's make me feel grateful that I can contribute to making our world more "green" even with these small actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryConcrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but its carbon footprint may not be obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 11:20 AMAnother everyday material that might have a large carbon footprint is clothing. Depending on how the materials are gathered and the product is produced, our clothes and how often we get new ones may contribute to a large carbon footprint without us realizing. One way to find out more is to use Google! or participate in challenges such as Ecochallenge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 11:16 AMEating without distractions makes me appreciate the meal more as I am not distracted by other things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 9:26 AMThe most exciting solution I explored was dynamic glass. This is exciting to me because, in the future, I would like to build a house with big windows and this can help me do that along with being able to be energy efficient. Plus, it just sounds and looks cool! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Ranzi Bete 4/23/2021 8:50 AMOther steps I can take to reduce my electricity usage is by turning off unnecessary lights, unplugging chargers that aren't in use, and using more energy efficient devices. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Ranzi Bete 4/16/2021 9:41 AMNext step for me is to look into different insulation options I can install in my home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildingsWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Ranzi Bete 4/16/2021 8:46 AMMaking my home more energy efficient saves money while reducing my carbon footprint. Researching more energy efficient alternatives to the things around my home also gives me awareness on how each contribute to my carbon footprint. Never stop learning!
