REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Uistean Anderson 4/29/2021 8:48 AMMy vision of a sustainable community to me looks like people having solar panels on people roof tops to reduce the amount of other energy types. The thing that would need to change for my vision to become reality would be ,one to have solar panels on roofs, two a company that convince people to do it, three a change in mindset about our planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Uistean Anderson 4/28/2021 9:45 AMThe investment that seems the most feasible to me is countries that have the potential to use geothermal energy should use only geothermal energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Uistean Anderson 4/27/2021 8:45 AMI have heard of biomass technology. I am somewhat surprised that the end goal of biomass is to make heat and that is like a domino chain manure - turns into methane - which is used to heat water - to produce steam - to run a generator- to make power. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Uistean Anderson 4/26/2021 9:06 AM
I can limit the amount of palm oil I consume as well as reducing the amount of paper.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Uistean Anderson 4/22/2021 8:56 AMI eat meat everyday so that is causing deforestation to increase in order to have more cattle. I can stop eating meat and eat more plant based products. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?
Uistean Anderson 4/22/2021 8:54 AMOne thing I have learned about the impact of refrigerants is that they actually harmed the ozone layer. Supermarkets are packed with refrigerators so they would be a big source of the problem. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Uistean Anderson 4/22/2021 8:46 AMThat we are destroying environment by both decimating it for resources and then with the waste from both the production and the actual throwing away the product. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustryWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Uistean Anderson 4/21/2021 9:02 AM
Of the 100 largest economies on earth now, 51 are corporations .
I think that incineration is one of the best options to get rid of waste because to my knowledge it might be wrong if you heat it and I mean incredibly high it breaks up the molecules into non toxic gases as well as using that heat and conversion currents to make energy.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Uistean Anderson 4/20/2021 8:56 AMTo be honest I was already aware of these things so my actions will not be affected. That there is only 1 virgin forest left. That there are people trying to help.
