  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

Donating money and voting for people who would work toward more sustainable energy production.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

Yes, I've seen biofuel tanks outside of restaurants and shops. I learned that biomass technology uses less oil and foreign oil, and can meet our electricity demand.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/26/2021 9:37 AM
Donate and limit my consumption of palm oil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Teagan Allen 4/20/2021 12:54 PM
Learning more about environmental challenges, I definitely feel more anxious about all the different causes that I participate in every day and feel more obligated to change some habits, that I will work to do. What feels overwhelming is the number of people that don't believe in/choose to ignore climate change, especially when a lot of those people are the people in power. The parts that make me hopeful are the number of people that are changing their ways and working to be more sustainable helping others be more conscience too.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/19/2021 7:08 PM
My diet impacts deforestation through my coffee intake, oil usage, and meat consumption. I can decrease the amount of meat and oil I use, and make sure to buy from sustainable brands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/16/2021 10:02 PM
I wont view them as an safety date and continue to eat the food but checking on it until it does go bad.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/16/2021 6:52 PM
I learned that family is very important for not only women's rights but also the environment. Women's needs are disregarded or politically charged that represses women's rights that does not happen for men issues. For example- condoms are cheap and accessible for men but womens contraceptives are expensive and not nearly as accessible for it requires prescriptions, parental permission, etc...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/16/2021 6:45 PM
Barriers that exist to women's equal participation in my community that i've seen/experienced would be lots of male dominated sports from stereotypes, pressure, exclusion, or fear.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Teagan Allen's avatar
    Teagan Allen 4/16/2021 6:39 PM
No and I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is its healthier for the environment and animals- its better for animals because they get better nutrients and a more natural environment.  The environment would benefit because there would be less deforestation.
