  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Climate Resilience Learn about 'Green Gentrification'
Cities and towns need to plan for climate change. How can your city or town make its climate action plans equitable and socially just?

I think that if we stop building as many apartments and condominiums and instead create more parks, green spaces, and gardens the price of living won’t be as crazy. I think we could also benefit from getting rid of chemical plants and waste facilities near neighborhoods creating a safer and healthier environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/29/2021 9:02 AM
A good investment for me would be to install a geothermal heat pump when I either buy or build a house in the future because it would help the environment and help me save money.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/28/2021 8:53 AM
My vision of a sustainable community is one where there is a penalty for using more resources than is necessary and wasting those resources because that is totally unfair. I also think that our resources need to be renewable so we don't drain the Earth of life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/27/2021 8:37 AM
I have heard the words biomass technology before reading this but I did not know what it was. Now knowing that it is a 100% clean energy source that can be used for heating, cooking, electricity, and so much more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/27/2021 8:20 AM
I can always help to inform more people about the significance of peatland and the impact they have on the Earth and atmosphere when they are destroyed.

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/27/2021 8:17 AM
I am very concerned about how so many people know they are doing bad things that are hurting the planet but they just do not care and continue to do the same thing. I don't know how but somehow we are going to have to reach out to those people and explain in a way they can understand how serious the problem is that they will stop.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/22/2021 8:32 AM
The climate impact of refrigerants used to be a lot worse than it is now because of the use of CFCs. Now the replacement is HCFCs which seemed like a great idea until we saw the other climate issues it created. As stores sell more and more products that release HCFCs through leaks and disposal there is going to be a greater negative impact on the climate.

    Lila Allen 4/21/2021 9:10 AM
I am very concerned about the number of resources that America uses alone, and how we are using and polluting other country's resources and land.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/20/2021 9:26 AM
Learning more about the environmental challenges in our world has really worried me. It is scary to think about how many trees are being destroyed. Even though the thought of what is happening to our environment is terrible and scary it has also made me feel more motivated to do something about this issue and help to fix it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Lila Allen's avatar
    Lila Allen 4/19/2021 9:03 AM
My diet is not too heavy on animal products but still has some negative impact by supporting soy crops. I have also contributed to the problem of coffee and cocoa crops. I can decrease my negative impact starting today by limiting the amount of palm oil products, animal products, coffee, and cocoa I buy and consume and if I do buy it I will make sure it has the Rainforest Alliance labels.
