REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Antonio Alamillo 4/25/2021 8:00 AMI had never heard of silvopasture before completing this action. The biggest benefit to practicing silvopasture is farmers being able to raise livestock while not having to sacrifice forests/remove trees. Often times deforestation occurs to allow for livestock to be raised, which can have severe environmental impacts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Antonio Alamillo 4/21/2021 12:16 PMThese vehicles are less expensive when refueling, so it saves money on gas. Additionally, people can earn tax credits for having an eco-friendly/electric car, depending on their location. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Explore Other Transportation SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Antonio Alamillo 4/21/2021 12:12 PMI didn't know that transportation contributes to 14% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. With this topic, it's important to keep pushing alternatives to traditional transportation (carpooling, use public transport or bikes, etc.). With traditional transportation, we need to continue making vehicles more efficient and ecofriendly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Antonio Alamillo 4/21/2021 12:08 PMTake it one small step at a time, and realize that every change makes a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Antonio Alamillo 4/21/2021 12:07 PMOne can donate, raise awareness, and continue to educate themselves on the topic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Antonio Alamillo 4/21/2021 12:04 PMAll. Everyone can always donate, no matter how large the amount. Time and advocacy, which are interconnected, are more difficult to manage, however not impossible if one makes time for them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Antonio Alamillo 4/20/2021 5:56 AMThe NCDHHS recommends that I eat no more than one mean per week with a fish that's high in mercury, and no more than four meals with fish that are low in mercury. My diet choices fall within these guidelines; I eat low-mercury fish about twice a week. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Antonio Alamillo 4/20/2021 5:52 AMClimate change is important because if we don't address it, we will ruin the planet and all species on it. We have already seen how many of our actions, even daily ones, can have an adverse effect on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Research Retrofitting IncentivesHow can you share what you have learned in your research with others?
Antonio Alamillo 4/20/2021 5:49 AMRetrofitting is the act of improving energy efficiency or reducing energy demand in a building. I did not find any local incentives for retrofitting buildings in my area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Plan to InsulateWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
